DJI has launched the Osmo 360 II, the second generation of its compact 360-degree action camera, with higher frame rates, increased dynamic range and new low-light processing.
The new camera now includes replaceable fisheye lenses and, as per the original, is waterproof to 10m out of the box.
DJI has previously come under fire from scuba divers for not having an underwater housing for the Osmo 360, but a new Invisible Waterproof Case is being rolled out – compatible with both the 360 and 360 II, with a depth rating of 50m.
The Osmo 360 II retains the 1-inch HDR sensor of the Osmo 360, which DJI says provides 25 per cent greater sensor utilisation over a traditional rectangular sensor, improving low-light performance and reducing power consumption.
The new camera’s 360-degree HDR video resolution has been bumped up to 8K/60fps from 8K/50fps, with 14.5 stops of dynamic range, compared with 13.5 stops on the previous model.
Any scene recorded can be frozen as a 120MP HDR 360-degree photograph, created with ‘true-to-life lighting and contrast’.
DJI says that in addition to the updated sensor, low-light recording is further improved by an updated AI SuperNight 2.0 mode, which uses an improved noise reduction algorithm for clearer shots in dark conditions.
The Osmo 360 II supports 10-bit colour across all video formats and also includes DJI’s D-Log M colour profile.

For additional creativity in content, the Osmo 360 II can record 16K 360-degree timelapse sequences, up from the 8K timelapse resolution of the original model, and its ‘bullet time’-style Vortex mode now records at up to 8K/120fps, compared with 6K/120fps.
The DJI Studio app can also use AI frame interpolation to produce smooth panoramic footage up to 64 times slower than normal speed, equivalent to cropped 8K/480fps output.
A new Spotlight Follow function tracks a selected subject and keeps it centred in the frame as the camera rotates, which DJI says can reduce the need to reframe 360-degree footage during editing.
The updated DJI Mimo app adds 360° Editing 2.0, while a new NFC contact point allows the camera to connect to a phone, transfer files or open the app’s editing interface with a tap.
Footage exported through DJI Studio can be imported into DaVinci Resolve using a dedicated plug-in. Reframed footage can be exported at up to 4K.
The camera weighs in at 183g and has 105GB of usable internal storage without the need for an SD card.
DJI claims a battery life of up to 100 minutes recording at 8K/30fps, which can be charged to 80 per cent in 22 minutes. An optional Battery Extension Rod adds a claimed 180 minutes of operating time.
A four-microphone array provides onboard audio recording and wind-noise reduction, with direct wireless microphone support for DJI mics. The body has magnetic quick-release mounting points on both sides and a standard quarter-inch accessory thread.
