New DJI Osmo Action 4 action camera

Drone tech specialist DJI has launched the latest model in its action camera range, the Osmo Action 4, with an updated sensor, improved low-light performance and enhanced colour correction capability for scuba diving.

The Osmo Action 4’s 1/1.3″ sensor represents a dramatic 65 per cent increase over the 1/1.7″ sensor housed in its predecessor. Although the wide f/2.8 aperture and 155° ultra-wide FOV remain the same as the Osmo Action 3, the new sensor and its 2.4μm-equivalent pixel size is capable of shooting up to 4K/120fps with exceptional detail, even in low-light conditions.

Advanced image stabilisation is provided by DJI’s 360° HorizonSteady stabilization modes, including RockSteady 3.0/3.0+ for FPV footage and HorizonBalancing /HorizonSteady for horizontal shots.

Of particular note to divers, the Omso Action 4 is rated to 18m without the need for a housing, and has an updated advanced colour temperature sensor, to create natural colours without the need post-processing. A 60m-rated housing is available as an optional accessory, or as part of DJI’s ‘Dive Combo’ package.

Battery life extends to around 2.5 hours (at 1080p/24fps), with fast-charging needing just 18 minutes to bring the battery up to 80 per cent of capacity.

The DJI Osmo Action 4 comes with an intelligent editing suite through its LightCut app, which allows for previews and editing without transferring footage from the camera. LightCut can also recognise themes within the footage and automatically edit individual clips into sequences.
