Diver dies following ‘medical incident’ in West Palm Beach

A scuba diver has died following a ‘medical incident’ off the coast of Riviera Beach in Florida, close to the Ana Cecilia shipwreck.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that they received reports of the incident shortly before 10am on Sunday, 25 May.

When medics arrived at the scene, the victim was found unresponsive on the deck of his dive boat, while other divers performed CPR in an attempt to revive him.

The diver, who has not been named, was taken to Riviera Beach Marina and then to St Mary’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival shortly before 11 am

No details as to the cause of his death beyond ‘medical incident’ have been reported. A spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sherrif’s Office said that their divers recovered the victim’s equipment, which will be turned over to the authorities pending an investigation into the incident.
