Garmin launches new Descent X10 dive computer

Garmin has announced the launch of its latest dive computer, the Descent X10, an entry-level device designed with an easy-to-read display and a new rental mode for dive centres.

The X10 has an always-on, high-contrast 2.1-inch screen with a backlight and large text for displaying depth, dive time and other necessary information.

Scuba, apnoea and gauge modes are supported, and a new rental mode enables dive centres, schools and charter operators to configure computers to suit a diver’s experience level, and reset the dive data between users.

The new computer has a 10 ATM depth rating, and Garmin says the rechargeable battery provides up to 50 hours of dive use, or up to six months in standby mode.

The Descent X10 includes Garmin’s ‘NDL Aware’ depth metrics, which enable divers to see in real time how a specific change in depth would affect their no-decompression limit.

The Descent X10 can be paired with the Garmin Dive smartphone app, through which divers can use a simulator to familiarise themselves with the computer and dive plan before ever getting in the water.

Settings can be synchronised between compatible Descent computers, enabling divers using a backup computer to share their configuration across devices.

After a dive, the Garmin Dive app can automatically upload logs, tag dive locations and keep track of equipment use.

The Descent X10’s housing and bezel are made entirely from recycled ocean-bound plastics with a silicone wrist strap included as standard.

The computer is compatible with Garmin’s QuickFit bands (sold separately) and replaceable plastic bezel guards in Amp Yellow, Aqua, Purple Iris and black are available as optional extras.

The bezel guards are designed with additional protection and colour in mind, but also as an aid to dive operators tracking their rental stock.

‘Clear, accessible dive data can make all the difference under water,’ said Susan Lyman, Garmin’s vice president of consumer sales and marketing.

‘Descent X10 brings that essential information to the wrist, along with trusted dive features and a durable design, helping divers stay aware and supported from their first class and beyond.’
