New Garmin Descent X30 wide screen dive computer

Garmin has announced a new addition to its scuba diving lineup with the Descent X30, an easy-to-read, large-format dive computer with an eco-friendly design.

The new computer has a 2.4-inch display, a housing and bezel made with recycled ocean-bound plastics, and large leakproof metal buttons.

The display also has a helpful flip-screen mode, enabling the buttons to be located on either the top or the bottom of the housing, depending on a diver’s preference.

The Descent X30 is depth-rated to 10 ATM (11ATA/100m/330ft) with a battery capable of operating for up to 30 hours on a single charge.

It also includes support for multiple dive profiles and Garmin’s new ‘NDL Aware’ depth metrics, which the company says ‘work in real-time to show how specific depth changes can impact no-decompression limits’ to help divers explore for longer.

Other Descent X30 features include Surface GPS navigation, enabling divers to find their planned targets and locate their dives in the Garmin Dive app, and a 3-axis digital compass to help divers navigate underwater.

Alerts and alarms are both audible and haptic vibrations, and a dynamic depth chart will display a real-time graph of a diver’s depth and a projected ascent plan that includes safety or decompression stops.

For those who might want to explore diving beyond recreational limits, the Descent X30 supports multi-gas profiles, including trimix.

The computer can also be paired with a Garmin InReach satellite communicator and dive case, enabling divers to trigger an SOS message when above the surface, if they have an InReach GPS subscription.
