SJCAM has launched the SJ30, a new dual-lens action camera for content creation featuring 8K video recording. enhanced low-light performance, and a depth rating of 30m when used with an optional housing.
The camera pairs a 1/2.0-inch daylight sensor with a larger 1/1.8-inch starlight sensor, engineered specifically for low light performance.
SJCAM says the design will deliver brighter, clearer footage during night dives or cavern dives, with a reduction in the digital noise common to low-light conditions.
The SJ30 records video at up to 8K resolution at 20 fps and 4K at 60 fps, which SJCAM claims allows greater flexibility for cropping and stabilisation during post-production.
Video stabilisation is provided by SJCAM’s SteadyMotion 2.0 system, which uses a six-axis gyroscope. The camera also includes a 45-degree horizon lock intended to help maintain level footage during movement.
For underwater use, the camera carries an IPX8 waterproof rating and can be submerged to 5m without additional protection. The optional dive housing extends the operating depth to 30m.
SJCAM’s products are targeted squarely at the content creation market, and come with several features designed specifically for such use, including a 2.51-inch flip touchscreen that rotates through 180 degrees, voice control, and support for the company’s M4 wireless microphone system.
Recognising that online platforms are increasingly moving away from the traditional widescreen formats, the SJ30 is also capable of vertical video recording at up to 5K resolution.
Power is supplied by a 2,000mAh battery, which SJCAM is ‘designed for long immersion times’, with a full 0-100% charge taking around 2.5 hours.
Claimed battery life of up to seven hours at 4K resolution is through the use of an external power handle, which is not useable underwater.
Founded in 2010, in Shenzhen, China, SJCAM is a producer of action cameras and accessories aimed at outdoor sports, travel and content creation markets.
The SJ30 is available through SJCAM’s website, priced at US$259, with the underwater case available for an extra $19.99.
