Scubapro has brought two new regulator systems to market, targeted at recreational divers who are ready to ‘step up’ from their entry-level regulator systems and are looking for a ‘reliable, durable, and smooth breathing’ replacement. The new combinations are based around the tried-and-tested MK11 and MK2 EVO first stages, with an all new second stage in the S270.
The S270’s air-balanced design is intended to smooth out the inhalation effort across a range of depths and continue to supply enough pressure for effortless air delivery, regardless of position in the water. The techno polymer plastic barrel with metal thread is designed to both save weight and also reduce regulator freezing in cold water by providing a surface that ice crystals can’t adhere to. As a result, the S270 regulator systems are CE certified to the latest EN250A European Standards for all diving conditions, including extreme cold water.
The Scubapro S270 second-stage regulator is constructed from a fiberglass-reinforced nylon core with a special anti-scratch PU outer layer to create a sturdy, yet lightweight, casing. The dive/predive switch is designed for ease of use, even wearing thick gloves, and has a compact exhaust tee to help reduce exhalation effort. The standard ‘Hi-Flow’ mouthpiece is made with FDA-approved silicone with a large cross-section to maximize airflow. It is connected to the first stage with a Scubapro ‘Super-Flow’ hose, which has an oversized bore for greater airflow during inhalation.
Scubapro’s available combos pair the S270 with the MK11 and MK2 EVO first stages. The MK11/S270 features a balanced diaphragm first stage with sealed internal parts, preventing water and pollutants from fouling the inner mechanism and enhancing cold water performance. The MK2 EVO/S270 features the only downstream piston-style first stage with internal components specifically designed to resist freezing in extreme cold-water conditions. Both systems are good choices for ideal choices not only for recreational divers – the MK2 has been the mainstay of recreational rental gear for many years.
The S270 is also available as an alternate second stage octopus with the traditional bright yellow front cover, and a green-coloured nitrox version, although the currently available combos are packaged with Scubapro’s flagship R095 octopus as standard.
