Howard Rosenstein’s Dawn of Red Sea Diving is heading for Hollywood

Howard Rosenstein’s personal history of his journey as a Red Sea scuba diving pioneer, as told in his fantastic book Treasures, Shipwrecks and the Dawn of Red Sea Diving, is to be turned into a documentary.

Written by Rosenstein and published by Dived Up Publications, rights to develop the book into a movie or TV series have been acquired by a of US-based producers.

Among them is George Linder, executive producer of the Running Man reboot starring Glen Powell, which is set to premiere later in November.

Linder and two colleagues, Ziad Batal and John Ptak, have the rights to create a documentary that will explore Rosenstein’s first-hand account of how he built the Egyptian dive industry from scratch.

In doing so, Rosenstein brought the Red Sea’s reefs to the attention of luminaries such as Sylvia Earle, and David and Anne Doubilet, and helped secure their protection.

His adventure is set against the background of a nation technically at war with its neighbour, Israel, and Rosenstein himself assisted political negotiations through a delicate time in Middle Eastern history.

‘This is a powerful, untold story of exploration and risk at the limits of underwater discovery,’ said Linder. ‘The historical depth and sheer adventure make it perfect for the screen. We look forward to translating this remarkable work into a visually stunning film.’

As yet, no timeframe has been given for the documentary’s production, but the book is available in paperback from Divedup.com – you can check out DIVE‘s review here.
