PADI has teamed up with shark conservationist, Discovery Shark Week personality, and Emmy Winner, Andy Casagrande, to design a PADI Gear signature collection to help support shark conservation
Shark conservation is an integral part of PADI’s ‘Blueprint for Ocean Action’, with the established aim of reducing the number of sharks and rays facing extinction by 25 per cent in the next decade. PADI has recently been credited with a major role in securing protection for 60 new species of sharks and rays under the CITES convention, more than doubling the number of exisiting species covered by CITES Appendix II.
‘PADI and Andy Casagrande have worked closely together to design a sustainable limited-edition collection that gives consumers a more balanced perspective of sharks and inspires them to join us in being united in fins and taking action to protect them,’ said Lisa Nicklin, Vice President of Consumer Marketing at PADI Worldwide. ‘PADI Gear has helped remove more than 60,000Ibs of plastic from the ocean, which will only continue to grow through special collaborations like these.’
The signature collection features a recycled plastic towel, sustainable t-shirt and recycled plastic hat – all made with eco-friendly material featuring imagery from Casagrande’s portfolio. The PADI x Andy Casagrande recycled plastic towel, for example, is equivalent to 14 plastic bottles removed from the ocean.
More from PADI and marine conservation
Fifteen per cent of the proceeds will go towards funding shark conservation efforts around the world – with plans to campaign for yet more sharks to be added to the list of CITES-protected species within the next three years.
‘I love sharks more than anything,’ said Casagrande. ‘This special collection with PADI has allowed me to fund their protection and change people’s perspectives about their role in the health of our shared blue planet.’
The new Casagrande signature collection is the third in which PADI has teamed up with shark conservationists who are also award-winning shark photographers, including a 2021 collaboration with PADI ‘AmbassaDiver’ Mike Coots.
The PADI x Andy Casagrande signature collection is available now – just in time for the gift-giving season – with a limited supply available on the PADI Gear web store.
DIVE also has one special edition towel and cap set to give away to a lucky reader – just enter the competition between now and 10 Jan 2023 to be in with a shout!
