The scuba diving liveaboard, MV Nouran, has sunk at Egypt’s Daedalus Reef after catching fire during the night of 6 November.

Nouran, a 36m mahogany-hulled liveaboard catering to 24 divers and owned by Red Sea Explorers, was part-way through a tour of the southern Red Sea when the incident occurred.

There is currently no information as to the cause of the blaze, however, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated and transferred to the nearby tech diving liveaboard, MV Tala – also part of the Red Sea Explorers fleet – and returned to Port Ghalib.

Red Sea Explorers has released an official statement across its social media channels:

It is with deep sadness that we share news of a tragic incident involving our vessel, MV Nouran. Last night, on November 6th, our boat caught fire near Daedalus Reef.

Thankfully, all guests and crew were safely evacuated without any injuries, and everyone is now back on land.

Despite the swift and professional efforts of our crew, the fire could not be contained, and we were unable to save MV Nouran.

While the safety of our guests and crew is our foremost priority, the loss of MV Nouran is profoundly felt. She was not just a vessel; she was a home, both for us and for the many guests who shared unforgettable journeys aboard her.

We have been deeply moved by the outpouring of kind and supportive messages from our clients and business partners. These condolences bring warmth on a difficult day, and we are incredibly grateful for the compassion shown by our community.

Our team is working diligently to find solutions for guests who have bookings on MV Nouran for the remainder of the season. We will be reaching out to each agent and customer as soon as possible with further information.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time.

The MY Nouran is now the fourth liveaboard to have sunk in the Egyptian Red Sea in 2024.

MY Seaduction sank during a storm in the deep south late in October, while Exocet sank in June after hitting Sataya Reef

A German woman diver was lost, presumed dead, following a fire onboard MY Sea Legend in February.
