The search for a diver reported missing on Sunday 22 September near Falmouth, off the coast of Cornwall, UK, has been stood down, according to a representative from HM Coastguard.

A major search and rescue operation was launched at 12:10pm after a dive boat reported an ‘overdue diver’ at around 11:00am on Sunday morning. The missing person had reportedly been diving at a site to east of St Anthony Head, located at the northern end of Falmouth Bay.

The search was supported by Devon and Cornwall police and other civilian vessels in the area at the time, but eventually called off at 9.30pm on Sunday evening.

‘The police were contacted by Falmouth Coastguard in relation to a diver who had not resurfaced in waters around St Anthony Head near Falmouth on Sunday 22 September,’ said a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall police.

‘A Coastguard search was carried out supported by the RNLI, but it has since been called off.

‘The diver’s next-of-kin has been made aware.’
