Five more must-see ocean documentaries on Netflix

31 March 2017
< 1 minute

Here’s five great Netflix’s treats not to miss – some classics and one new stunner just about to be released. Get the popcorn, prepare to sofa dive!

Mission Blue

The ever-inspiring Sylvia Earle’s call to action to save out oceans. Essential viewing.

Shark

A serious and thorough natural history of the ocean’s star predators.  Three episodes of top quality BBC film making. We know we love sharks – this is a great opportunity to get non-divers to understand just how wonderful they are.

Blue Planet

If you can’t wait to the BBC’s mega update out this autumn, you can always wallow in the full glory of the original. Eight unmissable 45-minutes films with stunning sequences from coral reefs to the Arctic, from deep-sea beasties to majestic whales. You have probably forgotten just how good this series is – prepare yourself for a marathon session of sofa diving!

Return To The USS Atlanta: Defender of Guadalcanal

A great diving adventure story – classic World War Two wrecks, stunning diving footage in the Solomon Islands… what’s not to like?

Chasing Coral

This has been a big hit at film festivals and should be on Netflix any moment (you can add it to your wishlist now). It is directed by Jeff Orlowski, who also made Chasing Ice (2012), an extraordinary film — one of the most important documentaries on climate change ever made.
