My name is Steven Alexandre, I am 19 years old. I’m Indonesian and I was born and raised in Jakarta. Living in Indonesia’s largest city, I had no knowledge of the oceans surrounding my country and its seventeen thousand islands until a holiday with my mother when I learned to snorkel. A few years later when I was 12 years old, I qualified as a junior open water diver.
I have always loved photography even before I began diving, and it seemed a natural progression to start taking photographs underwater. As my diving developed so did my passion for underwater photography.
Since the Covid 19 pandemic, my mother and I have been living on the island of Lombok close to Bali, and almost every day we go diving. Diving is particularly interesting in Lombok because of its location being between Asia and Australasia. This has also led me to explore the art of underwater macro photography because there are many beautiful and unique creatures in Lombok’s surrounding oceans. My dream is that in the future my photography skills will grow and I will be able to show the hidden beauty of my country’s underwater world and share it with everyone through my pictures.
