The Seahorse Trust’s sustainable charity gift partnership

UK seahorse conservation charity partners with local sustainable business to raise funds for marine wildlife protection

Conservation charity The Seahorse Trust has announced a new partnership with local Devon business Sails and Canvas, which makes lifestyle products handcrafted from recycled boat sails and canvas.

Ten per cent of sales from a range of products from the Sails and Canvas ‘Marine Life’ range – including hand-designed and locally-crafted beach bags, shoppers, mini buckets and bottle bags – will be donated to The Seahorse Trust.

The money raised from the sales will go directly to The Seahorse Trust, helping them to continue their work to protect the local seahorse population at Studland Bay. In 2019, Studland Bay was designated as a Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) as a result of its seagrass beds and the habitat and breeding ground they provide for the spiny seahorse, which is a protected species in the UK.

On announcing the partnership, Neil Garrick-Maidment, Founder and Executive Director of The Seahorse Trust said: ‘We are hugely excited by this partnership with Sails and Canvas. Their sustainable approach to creating products with materials destined for landfill by giving them a new life couldn’t be more aligned with the values of The Seahorse Trust.

‘As we approach Christmas, I hope people will consider buying from this forward-thinking company, creating a double win for the environment and nature.’

Sails and Canvas founders Mandi Wilkinson and Juliette Johnson said: ‘The work undertaken by The Seahorse Trust is invaluable and we are proud to be playing a small part in helping to conserve the future of these wonderful creatures.’
