After a chance encounter while freediving in a South African kelp forest in 2010, Craig Foster, who produced My Octopus Teacher, decided to follow a curious young octopus. Filmed over the course of a year, Foster documents his experiences with the octopus and the effect the relationship had on his life, culminating in a rousing scene where the octopus hesitantly reaches out to touch Foster with a tentacle.
The fascinating and at times extremely moving film gained a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 per cent – not bad for a documentary about a depressed free diver and a cephalopod!
