Historical Diving Society’s 31st annual conference

The Historical Diving Society has announced that it is holding its 31st Annual Conference at the UK head office of offshore engineering contractor Subsea­­­7 in Sutton, UK on Saturday 19 November 2022.

The HDS is a registered charity, formed in the UK in 1990 for the preservation, protection and promotion of diving heritage, and has since grown to become a worldwide organisation of affiliated national societies all with the same aims and interests.

The annual conference is open to members, divers and anyone who may have an interest in the subjects or diving history in general.

Planned talks include:

Liz James, (the UK’s first qualified female professional diver) – The history of Subsea7.

Patrick van Hoeserlande, – the development of buoyancy devices.

Bjørn Kahrs, ­– historic diving in his native Norway.

Gavin Anthony, ­­– scientific diving research and world records made at the Royal Navy Physiological Laboratory, and

Nigel Phillips, the Collections Officer at The Diving Museum in Gosport will give a brief review of the some of the many ‘gems’ in the Museum collection.
