A search is underway for four European divers who have gone missing during a dive training exercise off the southeast coast of Malaysia, according to reports from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA)

The divers are all European and include a 46-year-old British man, 14-year old Dutch boy, an 18-year old French woman and a 35-year old Norwegian woman. The divers were diving near Pulau Tokong Sanggol, an island approximately 15km (9 miles) from the Malaysian mainland.

‘The incident involved four foreign divers who failed to return after undergoing a diving exercise at about noon today,’ said official MMEA spokesperson Nurul Hizam Zakaria. ‘The divers comprised a 14-year-old male, a 46-year-old British man, an 18-year-old French woman and a 35-year-old Norwegian woman.

‘The divers were reported missing by the boat captain who took them out to sea.’

A search party including teams from the MMEA, Marine Police Force and the Malaysian Fisheries department was launched at around 2.45 pm in the afternoon (7.45 am BST), according to Zakaria, who said that teams are still searching for the missing group.

As of 4 pm local time, none of the divers had been found.
