Scubapro has launched an updated version of its popular ‘GO’ lightweight travel BCD for 2022. The new jacket sees some small changes and upgrades over the previous model but retains its overall travel-friendly intent.
Just like its predecessor, the new Scubapro GO BCD is constructed of 210 denier nylon covered with polyurethane, joined using RF soldering for wear resistance. The jacket-style BC weighs in at just 2.5kg, making it one of the lightest on the market, and is designed to fold down into a compact package to make it easy to fit into airline luggage requirements.
One of the most notable upgrades is the replacement of the previous model’s standard tank strap with Scubapro’s new ‘user-friendly’ Quick Cinch tank buckle system. The new strap assembly is designed to be more easily adjustable to fit different tank sizes – especially useful if you need to switch to a different sized tank between dives or with different operators. An upper tank band secures the tank in place to aid stability underwater.
The rotating shoulder buckles have been replaced with a new design, but the harness remains otherwise appears to be mostly unchanged. The wraparound bladder has been redesigned with differently joined panels with a new colour scheme, and a new layout for the zippered pockets. The ‘Airnet’ backpack is designed for both comfort and quick water-draining in an easy-to-fold design, and the quick-release integrated weight pouches are each capable of holding up to 4.5kg of weight, with low-profile pinch-clips for quick release.
The updated GO retains the stainless steel knife attachment grommets on the left pocket – which appears to have lost its D-ring – but the right-hand pocket’s aluminium hoop remains, as do the two at the sides and the large, pre-bent D-rings on the shoulder pads. two octopus pockets are built into the jacket for the alternate second stage and console hoses.
The Scubapro GO BCD is available in five sizes (XS-XL) with buoyant lift from 10.2kg to 19.4kg, depending on size, and buyers have the choice of either Scubapro’s standard Balanced Power Inflator (BPI) or an AIR2 Backup Inflator Regulator. Optional trim weight pockets are also available.
