Northern Diver raises the bar with its Odyssey Full Face Mask

Northern Diver has once again raised the bar for diving equipment with the launch of the Odyssey Full-Face Mask.

Designed, developed, and manufactured in the UK, the new addition to the company’s range has been built with military grade performance in mind, but is equally at home in commercial, rescue and recreational settings.

For more than 40 years, Northern Diver has built its reputation on innovation and reliability, and the Odyssey is the latest example of that ethos. Its development was guided by a simple mission: make breathing underwater easier, safer, and
more comfortable, even in the harshest conditions.

A lens on the future

The Odyssey’s most immediate impact comes from its low-profile, impact-resistant lens. Offering outstanding peripheral vision, it enables divers to maintain awareness of both environment and equipment, a crucial advantage in tight spaces or low-visibility waters. Built from robust polycarbonate, the lens is mounted into a rigid nylon frame and partnered with a carefully moulded silicone skirt, which together form a watertight seal without sacrificing comfort.

A five-point harness system completes the secure fit, with adjustment designed to be quick and intuitive. Even the strap tensioning sequence has been thought through, reducing the risk of jaw fatigue and making sure the mask seals consistently across a wide range of head shapes.

Breathing made simple

Inside, the Odyssey has been engineered to deliver smooth, fog-free breathing. Its air circulation system features an oral nasal pocket and dual non-return valves that direct airflow in a way that clears moisture, prevents lens fog, and CO2 buildup. The result is a mask that feels natural to breathe from, even under pressure.

Tested against international standards, the Odyssey comfortably exceeds requirements, including the EN250:2014 certification. In trials, it has delivered air at rates far beyond standard demand, including 62 litres per minute at 50 metres depth, giving divers confidence that their breathing system will keep pace, whatever the dive demands.

Cold water confidence

Where the Odyssey truly stands apart is in cold water performance. Many full-face masks struggle to maintain consistent airflow in icy conditions, but Northern Diver has engineered a solution: a stainless-steel side block that doubles as a passive heat sink.

This simple yet highly effective feature helps stabilise the temperature of the breathing gas, reducing the risk of freezing and ensuring reliability in waters as cold as 4°C and below.

For military divers, commercial teams, or rescue units operating in freezing conditions, this is about more than comfort — it’s critical performance.

Streamlined and adaptable

The Odyssey’s performance is also enhanced by its low profile regulator, which sits flush with the mask to reduce drag and snagging. The streamlined profile helps divers move more freely, whether manoeuvring through tight spaces, carrying out
salvage tasks, or responding to emergencies.

Adaptability has also been built in from the start. The Odyssey features multiple mounting points for accessories such as lights, cameras and communications systems.

It is also compatible with Northern Diver’s Low Air Warning System (LAWS) — a visual LED indicator that alerts divers as cylinder pressure falls.

For mission-critical flexibility, an optional side block allows divers to switch seamlessly to a bail-out air supply.

Made in Britain, built for purpose

Northern Diver has long been a trusted name in diving innovation, and the Odyssey is no exception. By keeping design and development in-house at its Appley Bridge headquarters in North West England, the company ensures that every detail of the Odyssey meets the highest standards of performance and durability.

The Odyssey is more than just a full-face mask. It’s a new benchmark for underwater breathing, engineered in Britain and built to perform when the pressure is on.
