Thalassa Dive Resorts – the best of Manado and Lembeh

Thalassa’s Manado and Lembeh resorts are far from any mass tourism and home to some of the world’s most amazing coral reefs, perfect for scuba divers who love to escape.

The province of North Sulawesi is a truly unique travel destination in Indonesia. Its position within the huge archipelago puts it on exactly the right balance between the tourism industry of Bali and remote eastern Indonesia.

The people are the warmest and friendliest you’ll ever meet, in what is known as the Land of Smiling People, and you’ll find the area’s safe atmosphere very reassuring, which is great for families and single female travellers.

It’s also one of the best scuba diving destinations in the world…

Three different scuba diving hotspots

As a diving destination, North Sulawesi offers three distinct areas. The most famous is Bunaken Marine Park, which offers an enormous variety of underwater life. Sea turtles, huge schools of reef fish and many others live on and around the colourful reefs.

Established as a national park in the early 90s, its reputation as a premier diving area in Indonesia proves itself time and time again. Bunaken is perfect for everyone from seasoned divers to snorkellers, and Open Water Diver students will enjoy taking their first steps to becoming a diver here as well.

On the province’s east coast, the Lembeh Strait is extremely popular as a hotspot for lovers of macro photography.

Known as the Muck Diving Capital of the World, diving at Lembeh offers an entirely different experience. Don’t be fooled by the unassuming black sand bottoms: you can encounter wildly varied creatures here.

Well-camouflaged, brightly coloured or downright bizarre animals make these waters their home. This is the place for the famous hairy frogfish, pygmy seahorse and a huge variety of nudibranchs, just to name a few.

The Bangka Archipelago is another uniquely different area. Located in the north of the province, Bangka and its neighbouring islands allow multiple currents to bring in nutrients. This attracts large schools of fish such as snappers and jackfish.

What makes this so different is the volcanic topography that is covered by soft corals swaying in the surge, while you are surrounded by a kaleidoscopic variety of underwater life.

Together with a delicious lunch on a white sand beach, this makes for an unforgettable day – and all of the above (and more) is accessible from Thalassa’s two resorts and new budget guesthouse…

Thalassa’s ‘Ubud in Manado’ is a comfortable resort consisting of bungalows, family villas and single rooms under the shade of lush surrounding jungle.

Our slogan is ‘…where guests leave as friends!’ and this is evident from the moment you arrive. You’re welcomed by an ever-smiling team who will stop at nothing to make your stay (and for many, an eventual return) comfortable.

Service is informal but personal; we’re happy to help you with anything you need. Our integrated dive centre, massage room and a plethora of land-based excursions make it the ideal place to start your adventures.

Thalassa Dive Resort Lembeh

The bungalows and single rooms of our boutique resort on Lembeh Island all come with a wonderful sea view. What makes this place so unique is its position in the middle of Lembeh island, so we’re able to bring you to some of best muck diving sites in the strait.

Just like in Manado, all our rooms are air-conditioned, with hot water showers and everything you need for a wonderful stay.

You will not go hungry as both resorts offer a delicious mix of traditional Indonesian and European dishes (full board), and of course we can cater to any and all dietary restrictions.

Guesthouse Thalassa

A new addition to the Thalassa family is our recently opened Guesthouse Thalassa. Located within walking distance from our Manado resort, this simple but charming guesthouse is ideal for guests who are looking for a budget option for their vacation (and yes, breakfast is included).

The guesthouse would also be suitable as long-term accommodation for divemaster or instructor course candidates.
