Secret Atlas offers adventurers the opportunity to explore some of East Greenland’s most remote locations on a 10-day Expedition Micro Cruise through stunning Scoresby Sund.
Secret Atlas – founded, led and made for explorers by explorers – offers exclusive Expedition Micro Cruises to Greenland, the largest but most sparsely populated island on Earth, where every location is, by definition, remote.
Many who visit Greenland miss out on the opportunity to visit the world’s largest system of fjords, Scoresby Sund (Kangertittivaq in the native Greenlandic language, Kalaallisut), as it is only accessible from August to October each year.
Secret Atlas, however, has launched its new Expedition Micro Cruise to enable small, intimate groups of adventurers to explore the stunning fjord system while taking in the towering icebergs, elusive wildlife and the remote community of Ittoqqortoormiit.
Setting sail onboard the MV Vikingfjord, the Secret Atlas Expedition Micro Cruise spends eight days exploring the stunning landscapes of Scoresby Sund, spending as little time on board the ship as possible through daily Zodiac cruises and onshore hikes.
With just 12 guests joining any given cruise, the experience is designed to be crowd-free and flexible, with each itinerary led by world-class expedition leaders to ensure the best chance of seeing muskox, glaciers and the Northern Lights, which appear from September onwards.
At the end of the expedition, Vikingfjord sails up the longest fjord on the planet, through the impressive ice giants of Scoresby Sund, to visit one of the most isolated settlements in Greenland, a unique opportunity to learn about Inuit tradition among the 400-strong community of Ittoqqortoormiit.
Secret Atlas Co-Founder and enthusiast explorer Michele D’Agostino said, ‘When I first entered Scoresby Sund Fjord in July 2018, I immediately understood what a fascinating and unique part of the planet it was.
‘We decided to launch the East Greenland micro cruise to allow a small group of guests the opportunity to experience this remote part of the world in an authentic and private way, but with minimal impact to the community, wildlife and environment.’
